There is one major known issue with the Live Messenger Plugin for Google Desktop, which appears to be an incompatibility with some combinations of Windows XP and Live Messenger.

This issue has been narrowed down by one of our very helpful users, Ralph.  The issue is related to Security Update for Windows XP (KB946648)

This Security Update is for older versions of Messenger and only affects Windows XP machines. I'll leave it up to you, the users, to determine if you would like to uninstall this update. We can tell you though that without this update installed the Live Messenger Gadget will work as expected on Windows XP.

Many thanks to Ralph for your persistence in finding the cause of this issue.  I cannot thank you enough.  As a way to say thank you to the community I am releasing the Pro version of the Google Gadget for all users.  It should update in the Google Sidebar over the coming weeks.
